A theory of magnetic Compton scattering is formulated. The cross section is found to be insensitive to orbital effects, in agreement with recent experiments on transition-metal and rare-earth ferromagnets. When the transferred energy is sufficiently small to generate substantial corrections to the impulse approximation, the sensitivity to orbital moments of ordinary nonresonant magnetic scattering is recovered.

Abstract
A theory of magnetic Compton scattering is formulated. The cross section is found to be insensitive to orbital effects, in agreement with recent experiments on transition-metal and rare-earth ferromagnets. When the transferred energy is sufficiently small to generate substantial corrections to the impulse approximation, the sensitivity to orbital moments of ordinary nonresonant magnetic scattering is recovered.File in questo prodotto:
